PSA for Parents

PSA to all parents of musical theatre kids…

  1. I say this with all the love in my heart…
  2. I say this having two of my own children in the field…
  3. I say this having auditioned thousands of kids…
  4. I say this having just returned from Chicago Unifieds (where I saw some cray-cray let loose)…
  5. I say this having met with several faculty members from various universities and chatting with them about this challenging business…

Do this for your child, this one little thing, and your talented kiddo will have a MUCH BETTER shot at this…

BACK OFF

Seriously, step away from that audition door.  Peel your ear off said door and go plant your butt in a chair.  Read a book.  Text a friend.  Listen to calming music.  Meditate.  Take a Zanax.  Anything that does not involve listening to your child at the door, bragging about your child to everyone else waiting, nagging your child all the way up to the audition door or peppering them with questions the second they exit that same door!

College faculty and professional theaters do not appreciate your enthusiasm.  They do appreciate you having enough confidence in your child and their abilities to step back, be quiet and let your child’s work speak for itself!  Relax!  They got this!

You raised them to BE AWESOME! Now… Let them BE!
